Searchlight New Mexico, a nonprofit investigative journalism organization, has been selected to participate in the largest grassroots fundraising campaign ever to support nonprofit and investigative news organizations. Across the country, 110 nonprofit newsrooms, including Searchlight New Mexico, are participating. Donors can contribute up to $1,000 between now and December 31, and every donated dollar will be matched, up to a total of $28,000 per organization.

The News Match fund is a collaboration between the Democracy Fund, John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, and John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, that are providing $3 million in matching dollars and inviting the nation to stand up and support local news and investigative reporting.

Searchlight New Mexico, which started operations this year, is dedicated to both investigative reporting and innovative data journalism. It is conducting in-depth examinations of New Mexico’s most pressing and dire problems, starting with the well-being of New Mexico’s children.
