Occasionally, one is afforded the opportunity to help guide the future of a philanthropic organization—setting priorities and determining where its resources and efforts can have lasting impact. Over the past year, I have had the privilege of being part of that important work at NMCF. It is a responsibility I embrace with great care, recognizing the many factors that must be thoughtfully considered when charting a path forward for our organization and the communities we serve.
Through respectful dialogue, deep reflection, and humble determination to support New Mexico’s future, we are turning the page to an exciting new chapter. Building upon our history and longstanding strengths, NMCF is embracing a unifying vision: Thriving New Mexico. This vision will guide our work through three interconnected funding priorities:
- Thriving Rural – (Healthy Food Access, Physical Activity, Social Connections, Local Livability)
- Thriving Environments – (Local Food Systems, Small Freshwater Ecosystems, Local Land Regeneration, Outdoor Recreation Access)
- Thriving Indigenous – (Local Food Systems, Water Is Life, Family Self-Determination & Well-Being, Native Entrepreneurship)
Together, these priorities reflect our commitment to supporting the people, cultures, and places that make New Mexico extraordinary—especially those communities that are often overlooked yet continue to build lives, families and strong futures in every corner of our state.
