Since 2015, the New Mexico Community Foundation has granted over $1.1 Million from the Vecino – Neighbor Helping Neighbor Fund.
In 2026, grants will be awarded to organizations experiencing a financial or operating gap and organizations supporting New Mexico communities recovering from an unexpected crisis, such as a natural disaster.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors New Mexico, Inc. – $5,000 (San Miguel and Mora Counties)
NHN-NM started as a group of volunteers in response to community needs after the Hermits Peak/Calf Canyon Fire. They now assist survivors with case management and coordination with local partners. This grant provides bilingual training in the use of reverse osmosis water filters to Hermits Peak/Calf Canyon Fire survivors.
Tooh’ Haltsooi Chapter – $5,000 (San Juan County)
This Chapter serves Sheep Springs area on the Navajo Nation. It provides essential direct assistance programs, including scholarships, hardship aid, housing support, and funeral assistance to address critical community needs. The grant provided septic system cleaning assistance for community members’ homes within the Sheep Springs area.
Valencia Shelter Services – $5,000 (Valencia, Socorro, Catron, and Torrance Counties)
VSS provides free, confidential, trauma-informed support to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and human trafficking. This grant is in response to the high cost of gas, providing fuel stipends for staff that visit and safely transport clients to shelter, court, medical care, and other critical services.
Catron County Cares – $4,355 (Caton County)
This organization works to improve healthcare access and wellbeing for citizens of Catron County. The grant assisted in opening a telehealth hub in response to the closure of local health clinics.
Samaritan House, Inc. – $5,000 (San Miguel and Mora Counties)
Samaritan House provides temporary and emergency shelter and essential services for their community. This grant assisted with general operations to cover loss of federal funding.
Puerto Seguro Safe Harbor, Inc. – $5,000 (Socorro County)
This organization is a homeless shelter that provides basic needs and long-term assistance to guests facing poverty and homelessness. The grant will provide general operating support to fill a gap in funding.
Lions Club of Taos, Inc – $5,000 (Taos and Colfax Counties)
This organization runs multiple programs including eye screening of children for vision impairments, eye health for adults, respite caregiver program, and UNM-TAOS health sciences student support program. Funds will be used to train and vet new respite caregivers to support Taos County families caring for family members at home.
