The Greater Chaco landscape is one of the world’s most significant cultural and spiritual places—a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the ancestral homeland of Indigenous peoples, whose connection to this landscape continues today.
The New Mexico Community Foundation stands with Tribal Nations and communities calling for the protection of Chaco Canyon and the surrounding landscape. Once sacred sites, cultural resources, and ancestral places are destroyed or lost, they cannot be replaced.
We urge policymakers to:
- Preserve existing protections for the Greater Chaco landscape.
- Honor meaningful government-to-government consultation with Tribal Nations.
- Protect this irreplaceable cultural heritage for future generations.
Now is the time to raise our voices. Join us in protecting one of New Mexico’s greatest treasures and ensuring this sacred landscape endures for generations to come.
