Grantmaking Spotlight – Our Community Commitment

I recently celebrated my 10-year anniversary at New Mexico Community Foundation. It is because of this work that I’ve had the honor of getting to know so many communities throughout our beautiful state.

One of the things I’ve valued about this foundation is its commitment to support and grant to rural areas. I’m proud to say that in 2025, NMCF disbursed grants to organizations in 32 of 33 counties.

Through funds such as Vecino (Neighbor Helping Neighbor), Sustaining New Mexico and the Native American Recovery Fund Zone Grant, we have leveraged resources far and wide for New Mexicans. Whether we are supporting the operation of a small soup kitchen in Luna County, the cultivation of corn, squash and chile on Laguna Pueblo lands, or are providing aid to families that suffered losses during the Ruidoso fires, NMCF has sought to do its work with humility and care for all people and cultures of New Mexico.

Thriving New Mexico is a continuation of the work we have been doing for more than four decades at NMCF. As our President and CEO Justin Huenemann notes, we are excited to begin this next chapter. But most importantly, we embrace the opportunity to listen and learn how we can better support communities and steward resources.
